A group of us (twelve or fourteen) got together at Emmaus House (http://emmaushousedm.wordpress.com/)
with Iowa artist Jo Myers-Walker and a pile of watercolors and paint supplies. We listened to music and painted and talked and laughed and wept. Had a fabulous meal, too.
Art in any form can be so healing. Mostly because it's a direct link to what we're feeling. Intriguing things emerge when you're willing to bypass the inner critic and allow the things to come that really want to.
I got in touch with my contemplative self, got frustrated with my lack of skill, felt sad about all that I used to carry as a young child. But I also played!!
When I got home, I put everything away until the next day. When I got the paintings out again, I saw different things. I realized that each represents a specific type of path, and all of them represent my path. So I named them. And then this morning I hung them. In order: Water Path, Spirit Path, Soul Path, Star Path and Inner Path. In a small way, it all makes me feel more whole; more my true self.
